What is Upliv, in plain language?

What does Upliv do for Direct Funding self-managers?

Upliv handles the payroll and bookkeeping work that tends to eat up your time: payroll runs, employer records, and clear reporting. You stay in control of your care. We keep the admin organized and easier to manage.

Is Upliv affiliated with Direct Funding Ontario?

Upliv is an independent platform and is not affiliated with Direct Funding Ontario. We support people navigating self-directed care by helping with the admin side of managing support. We operate separately from Direct Funding Ontario and from any Independent Living Resource Centre (ILRC).

How much time does payroll and reporting take each month with Upliv?

It should take a lot less time. Most people go from "hours of chasing paperwork" to "minutes of approving hours." Most self-managers spend hours each month tracking timesheets, organizing receipts, and double-checking reports. With Upliv, you send approved hours and any updates, and we handle the payroll workflow and keep your records clean so reporting feels straightforward instead of stressful. You’ll always know where you stand.

What do I need to upload each pay period?

Usually just:

  • Approved hours (timesheets)
  • Any updates (new hire, rate change, time off, ending employment)

I am worried about mistakes, penalties, or getting flagged. How do you reduce that risk?

Can Upliv help when I have multiple attendants, changing schedules, or last-minute cancellations?

Yes, on the admin side. We help you keep pay tracking clean across multiple staff and changing hours. We are not a staffing agency, but we can make payroll and documentation easier when life happens.

Can you help me set up payroll for new attendants?

Yes. Setting up a hire is one of the biggest time drains. We help you get payroll set up properly and keep your records organized so you are not rebuilding your system every time someone joins.

Can I use Direct Funding to pay a family member?

Generally, participants are not permitted to hire immediate family members under the Direct Funding Program. If you are unsure what counts as "family/household" in your situation, we can help you understand the rule and set up payroll correctly for eligible attendants.

Is Direct Funding accepting new applications, and how long does it take to get on the program?

Direct Funding Ontario says the program welcomes new applications, and interview timing varies. Some pages note an average wait that can be "less than a year," and the waiting list page currently notes applicants may wait around six months before an interview invitation. This can change; your local ILRC is the best source for your region.

Do I have to track attendant hours as a self-manager?

Yes, Direct Funding Ontario states self-managers are required to keep a written record of hours worked, and the method can be individual (paper or electronic).
